Creating online legal information resources: copyright issues

The advance of client extranets, the relentless need for maintenance of thriving, sprawling intranets, and the creation of subscription know-how services offered by various law firms, have all changed the role of the legal information professional over recent years. Guy Heath pitched his talk perfectly, combining practical guidance with legal analysis to give a good overview of this incredibly fast moving area. Guy has been a partner with Nabarro Nathanson for the past five years, heading up the London IP/IT practice, and due to his experience in the hybrid licensing of web-based business formats (which typically include brand, copyright and patent elements), was evidently extremely well placed to speak on the topic. The audience certainly seemed to agree, with question time extending well beyond the allotted time, followed by further discussion and a chance to chat over a glass (or three) of wine.

The full text of this talk, which also examines copyright in relation to linking to web sites and database rights, is available on request to CLIG members by e-mailing charlotte.russell-hargreaves@reuters.com.
