The following is a selection of sites that I find helpful as sources of current awareness. These may seem like obvious sites, already in your bookmarks or favourites, but the key to current awareness is not so much knowing where to go, as how often you go there...

Obvious, yes, but it really should be on your regular visits list. Diaries of events, publisher news and reports of Committee activities are all there and real benefits only come by checking on a regular basis.

Insider looks at legal IT in general, from new services that have hit the market to the movements and activities of various legal IT providers. A particularly useful source for finding out which organisations are taking what software (including library and knowledge management systems).

Legal Week

The latest news about happenings in legal business, and a fair bit of gossip to boot. You may well already cast an eye across the hard copy each week, but here you have it updated daily (and there’s an archive back to 1998 should you need it). Includes links through to other publications such as Legal IT (http://www.e-hub.com/gpm/legalit/new/).

Lexis Nexis Butterworths Tolley

The online catalogue is a valuable tool and includes “Hot off the Press” and “Coming Soon” sections. The Looseleaf & Encyclopaedia Updates & Prices page provides a handy Looseleaf Chart with information on current and forthcoming issue releases on both 'Pay As You Go' and annual subscription looseleafs.

Linex Legal

Linex Legal is a subscription service which monitors the Websites of leading law firms, governmental bodies and organisations, alerting subscribers when new content becomes available. Weekly Email Alerts are available for the UK, Australia, China, Canada, South Africa, Ireland and New Zealand, as well as specialised services covering International Arbitration, Product Liability, UK Employment Law, EU Competition, and UK Planning and Construction Law.
Linex’ services can help librarians and information specialists in law firms keep up to date with articles and opinions about developing legal issues.
